CDBG-DR Citizen and Stakeholder Workshops

The Florida Department of Commerce (FloridaCommerce) will hold Citizen and Stakeholder Workshops to provide an overview on the Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) program and the upcoming State of Florida Action Plan for Hurricane Ian. The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced that the State of Florida will receive $910,624,000 in funding to support long-term recovery efforts following Hurricane Ian. CDBG-DR funding is designed to address needs that remain after all other assistance has been exhausted.

The State of Florida awards CDBG-DR funds to local governments in areas impacted by presidentially-declared disasters for activities related to disaster relief, long-term recovery, restoration of infrastructure and housing, economic revitalization, and mitigation of risk associated with activities carried out for these purposes that enhance long-term resiliency efforts in vulnerable communities. Areas eligible for more than $910 million through the CDBG-DR program are state or HUD-designated Most Impacted and Distressed (MID) areas for Hurricane Ian, which include Brevard, Flagler, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Highlands, Hillsborough, Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Lake, Manatee, Monroe, Okeechobee, Osceola, Pinellas, Polk, Putnam, Seminole, and St. Johns Counties.  

These workshops will be held in impacted areas of the state to provide information on the next steps for the State of Florida, community partners, and local governments, and to request input and feedback from the community and stakeholders on unmet needs in their local communities. Participants will be given a brief overview of the CDBG-DR program and will have an opportunity to ask any questions they may have of staff.
