Program Description
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program emphasizes work, self-sufficiency and personal responsibility. Program participants gain valuable skills, training and work experience in an effort to reach total self-sufficiency.
Program History
In the 2003-2004 General Appropriations Act the Florida Legislature transferred Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program direct services from the Department of Economic Opportunity to the Local Workforce Development Boards.
Local Workforce Development Boards contract Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program direct services out to service providers and the Department of Economic Opportunity provides Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program guidance, training, program and financial reporting and monitoring.
This program is funded annually through a grant provided to the Department of Children and Families by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service.
Eligibility Requirements
Select food assistance recipients who are between the ages of 18 - 49, with no dependents, and do not meet DCF exemptions are eligible to participate in the Employment and Training activities offered through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
