Community Services Block Grant Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act Supplemental State Plan Application

The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity announces the opportunity to receive public comment regarding the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES) Supplemental State Plan Application for Federal Fiscal Year 2020-21.

The CARES Act was signed into law on March 27, 2020. The CARES Act provides $1 billion in additional funds to the federal CSBG to be awarded by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of Community Services to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the 2020 coronavirus pandemic. A total of $29 million of these funds have been allocated to Florida and will be administered by the Department of Economic Opportunity, Division of Community Development.

Public Hearing on the State of Florida’s Five-Year Consolidated Plan

The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity will host a public hearing on the United States Department of Housing & Urban Development Five-Year Consolidated Plan. Annually, the state receives approximately $73 million for housing and community development funds. The Consolidated Plan provides guidance for allocation of those funds among housing and community development activities.

Low-Income Home Energy Assistance

The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity will conduct a hearing to receive public comment regarding the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) State Plan for Program Year 2020-21. The LIHEAP State Plan for Program Year 2020-21 will be submitted to the United States Department of Health and Human Services on Friday, September 1, 2020.

Office of the Inspector General

The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) Office of the Inspector General (OIG) is undergoing an assessment by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) to maintain state-level accreditation. A team with the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation will conduct an on-site assessment of the DEO OIG on March 12, 2019. As part of the assessment, employees of the DEO and the public are invited to offer comments to the assessment team. An accreditation assessment examines all aspects of OIG’s Internal Investigations Section, including looking at policies and procedures, management, operations and support services.

DEO employees and the general public are invited to offer comments to the assessment team. A copy of the accreditation standards is available through the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation’s website at www.flaccreditation.org. Comments can also be submitted through writing and sent to: Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation, P.O. Box 1489, Tallahassee, Florida 32302, Email: flaccreditation@fdle.state.fl.us.

Once the Commission's assessors complete their review of OIG, they report to the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation who will determine if OIG maintains accreditation. Participation in the accreditation process is voluntary and, if granted, will be for a three-year period.
