TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Today, the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity announced that Statewide, the number of private-sector jobs increased 9,800, up 0.1 percent from October 2020. Florida’s unemployment rate was 6.4 percent in November 2020. Florida’s labor force was up 49,000 (+0.5 percent) over the month.
The Fort Myers area private-sector employment decreased by 8,300 jobs (-3.5 percent) over the year. The Fort Myers area’s unemployment rate was 5.7 percent in November. The Naples area private-sector employment decreased by 4,500 jobs (-3.1 percent) over the year. The Naples area’s unemployment rate was 4.9 percent in November.
The industry losing the most jobs over the year in the Fort Myers area was leisure and hospitality (-9,000 jobs). Two major industries gained jobs over the year in the Fort Myers area: professional and business services (+3,400 jobs); and construction (+1,700 jobs). The industry losing the most jobs over the year in the Naples area was leisure and hospitality (-2,600 jobs). Four major industries gained jobs over the year in the Naples area: manufacturing (+300 jobs); construction (+300 jobs); financial activities (+100 jobs); and other services (+100 jobs).
