TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Today, the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity announced that the Orlando area private-sector employment decreased by 114,400 jobs (-9.6 percent) over the year. The unemployment rate in the Orlando area was 15.3 percent in July, up 12.0 percentage points from one year ago.
The industry losing the most jobs over the year was leisure and hospitality (-83,000 jobs).
Statewide, the number of private-sector jobs increased 74,100, up 1.0 percent from June 2020. Florida’s labor force was up 223,000 over the month. Florida’s unemployment rate increased to 11.3 percent in July 2020.
