The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity Announces Southwest Florida March 2020 Economic Data

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Today, the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity announced the Southwest Florida area March 2020 Employment Data. This month, Florida saw expected changes in employment and unemployment data due to COVID-19 and the state’s effort to mitigate the spread.

Fort Myers Area Economic Indicators Include:

  • Unemployment rate was 4.3 percent, up 1.1 percentage points from one year ago.
  • 2,300 new private-sector jobs have been added in the past year.
  • Industries with the highest growth over the year in the Fort Myers area were
    • professional and business services with 1,700 new jobs; and
    • construction with 1,400 new jobs.

     

    Naples Area Economic Indicators Include:

  • Unemployment rate was 4.0 percent, up 1.1 percentage points from one year ago.
  • 600 new private-sector jobs have been added in the past year.
  • Industries with the highest growth over the year in the Naples area were
  • professional and business services with 900 new jobs; and
  • construction with 800 new jobs.
