Governor DeSantis Announces Pensacola Metro Area Unemployment Rate Drops to 2.7 Percent in August 2022

 

Pensacola, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced that the Pensacola area unemployment rate was 2.7 percent in August 2022, down 1.5 percentage points from the August 2021 rate of 4.2 percent. The Pensacola area’s total nonagricultural employment increased by 3.8 percent over the year in August 2022 (+7,200 jobs). The Pensacola area’s private sector employment increased by 4.8 percent over the year, representing 7,800 jobs gained. The Pensacola area labor force increased by 7,827 -, a 3.3 percent increase over the year.

 

The industry gaining the most jobs over the year was professional and business services, adding 2,500 jobs.


Florida’s economy is solid – with the lowest unemployment rate among the nation’s 10 largest states.[HK1]  The state’s unemployment rate remains low, businesses continue to create jobs for Floridians, and Floridians continue to enter the workforce. 

Data in the month of August continues to indicate there are many job opportunities available for Floridians throughout the state, with more than 500,000 jobs posted online.
