Governor Ron DeSantis Announces Miami Area Created More Than 28,000 New Jobs

Tallahassee, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the Miami area added 28,100 new private-sector jobs in the last year, creating the second-highest number of jobs among all Florida metro areas. The Miami area’s unemployment rate was 3.5 percent, down 0.5 percentage point from one year ago.

The industry with the highest growth over the year in the Miami area was education and health services with 11,100 new jobs.

Miami continued to rank third among the state’s metro areas in job demand with 38,566 openings in August, and once again offered the third-highest number of high-skill, high-wage STEM jobs with 10,281 online ads.

Statewide, Florida businesses created 18,900 new private-sector jobs in August 2019. Florida’s annual private-sector job growth rate of 2.8 percent continues to exceed the nation’s rate of 1.6 percent. Florida’s unemployment rate of 3.3 percent represents a drop of 0.1 percentage point over the year. This is while 143,000 people entered Florida’s labor force, a growth of 1.4 percent in the past year.
