Gov. Scott Signs Major Win for Florida Families

Jun 26, 2017

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Following this year’s Special Legislative Session, today, Governor Rick Scott signed HB 1A which establishes the new $85 million Florida Job Growth Grant Fund, fully funds VISIT FLORIDA and implements new accountability and transparency measures at VISIT FLORIDA and Enterprise Florida (EFI) and provides $50 million to jumpstart repairs to the federally operated Herbert Hoover Dike.

Governor Scott said, “Today, I am proud to sign legislation which establishes the Florida Job Growth Grant Fund, a flexible, transparent economic development program to secure more major jobs wins in Florida. This important legislation also fully funds a more accountable and transparent VISIT FLORIDA. I want to thank Senate President Joe Negron and Speaker Richard Corcoran for their support in this big win for Florida jobs. With this legislation, we can promote public infrastructure projects and job training projects to continue to grow jobs for families in every community of our state. We know that for Florida to be competitive in domestic and international markets, we need as many tools as possible to attract growing businesses to our state. The $85 million Florida Job Growth Grant Fund is what Florida needs to bring major jobs wins home.

“This legislation also makes critical investments and important reforms at VISIT FLORIDA. With full funding of $76 million and important accountability and transparency measures in place, this legislation puts VISIT FLORIDA on the right track to continue supporting Florida jobs and attracting record numbers of visitors to our state.

“I am also proud that this legislation provides funding to make much needed repairs to the Herbert Hoover Dike. Earlier this year, I got a commitment from President Donald Trump for federal support to fix the dike and I was glad to have Speaker Corcoran’s support during the Special Session to help jumpstart this important project.”
