Oak Hill (Volusia County) - Designated: 1999

Named for its abundance of oak trees, the City of Oak Hill lies along the banks of the Indian River in Volusia County. Citrus crops and seafood sustained Oak Hill's economy for more than a century until increased fishing regulations damaged the industry in the 1990s. Despite the downfall of the fishing industry, there is still an urge by the local community to revive the industry by creating a seafood cooperative.
