Program Description

Apprentice Florida, an initiative to expand apprenticeship opportunities throughout the state, is led by a state leadership team that consists of CareerSource Florida, the Florida Department of Education, and FloridaCommerce. We encourage and assist businesses in establishing apprenticeships, and we educate individuals about pursuing careers through apprenticeships.

The Apprentice Florida initiative also includes targeted industries and industry associations, the CareerSource Florida network, secondary and post-secondary education, and community-based organizations that work with underrepresented populations.

Apprentice Florida seeks to:

  • Collaborate with employers, educational institutions, jobseekers, apprenticeship sponsors, and other stakeholders to develop and apply industry standards to registered apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship training programs so that apprentices who complete their programs earn nationally recognized certifications and be accepted as journey workers in their industries.
  • Increase productivity and improve the quality of the workforce by encouraging employers to use registered apprenticeship programs that provide on-the-job training, related classroom instruction, and guaranteed wage structures as incentives to attract and retain more highly qualified employees.
  • Expand apprenticeships in occupations with the greatest demand in several targeted sectors including Advanced Manufacturing, Aerospace, Construction, Healthcare, Hospitality & Tourism, Information Technology, and Trade & Logistics.
