Program Description

Apprenticeship FLA, an initiative to expand apprenticeship opportunities throughout the state, is led by the Department of Economic Opportunity in collaboration with CareerSource Florida and the Florida Department of Education.

Apprenticeship FLA seeks to:

  • Expand apprenticeships in several targeted industries, including advanced manufacturing, healthcare, building trades/construction, hospitality, transportation, warehousing, and information technology.
  • Expand apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship opportunities for underrepresented populations, including Veterans, minorities, women, youth, individuals with disabilities, and individuals with barriers to employment.

The Apprenticeship FLA initiative includes partners from targeted industries and industry associations, the workforce system, secondary and post-secondary education, economic development, and community-based organizations that work with underrepresented populations.

These stakeholders participated in a series of workgroups that developed recommendations to increase apprenticeship opportunities in the state. Highlights of these recommendations can be found at Filling Florida’s Skills Gap through Apprenticeships.
