Governor Scott: Naples Adds 3,200 New Jobs Over the Year in May

NAPLES, Fla. —Governor Rick Scott announced today the Naples area saw an increase of 3,200 private-sector jobs over the year in May. The area’s unemployment rate fell to 4.0 percent, down 1.0 percentage point in the last year.


The industries with the most job growth in Naples over the year were leisure and hospitality with 1,200 new jobs and construction with 800 new jobs. The Naples area had 4,040 job openings in May, including 783 high-wage, high-skill science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) occupations.


Florida businesses created 239,000 private-sector jobs over the year in May, exceeding the nation’s private-sector job growth rate for more than four years. Florida’s statewide unemployment rate dropped to 4.7 percent in May, while 33,589 Floridians were placed in jobs by CareerSource Southwest Florida and the state’s other 24 regional workforce boards.
