Governor Scott Announces USR Systems to Create 140 Jobs in Gainesville

Dec 16, 2015

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Today, Governor Rick Scott announced that USR Systems, a U.S.-based IT consulting services company, will be expanding in Gainesville to create 140 new jobs. USR Systems specializes in mobility, cloud enablement, digital transformation, business intelligence, data analytics and testing. The new positions will support USR’s goal of ultimately building a delivery center in Gainesville.

Governor Scott said, “As the home of such a talented workforce, Florida is clearly the best place for USR Systems to expand, and we are excited to announce the creation of 140 new jobs for local families. We will continue our work to cut $1 billion in taxes to diversify our economy so Florida can be the number one place for job creators like USR Systems to succeed.”

“We are so excited to have found the right fit in Alachua County,” said USR Systems CEO Rajiv Akhaury. “A Gainesville delivery center will allow us to grow in ways we couldn’t before by easing the shift from staff augmentation to consulting services.”

Florida boasts one of the nation’s largest software and computer systems industries, with 14,100 firms employing 84,400+ industry professionals. Gainesville is one of 23 counties that make up the state’s High Tech Corridor, within which a large number of the state’s tech companies operate.

EFI President and CEO Bill Johnson said, “Information Technology is an increasingly important sector of Florida’s economy, and USR Systems’ expansion in Gainesville is great news. Their creation of 140 new jobs will be a huge boost for the Gainesville community, and I look forward to their continued success in helping us diversify Florida’s economy and create more jobs.”

Jesse Panuccio, Executive Director of the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, said, “The expansion of USR Systems in Gainesville is another victory for Florida’s thriving High Tech Corridor. Sound economic policies, like low taxes, fosters this kind of growth and creates new opportunities for Florida families.”

The project was made possible through strong partnerships between Enterprise Florida, the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, Council for Economic Outreach, Gainesille Area Chamber of Commerce, and CareerSource North Central Florida.

“USR Systems could have chosen to expand in any location in Florida,” said Council for Economic Outreach Chairman Todd Powell. “The company’s decision to expand in Greater Gainesville is a win for our region, and further strengthens our efforts to increase opportunity here, particularly as it relates to growing our IT/Software industry.”

Greater Gainesville is home to a thriving IT sector that has demonstrated over the last several years its ability to attract large IT corporations, including Mindtree, Mobiquity and others. The region also is rich in home-grown tech companies with major global market presence, including AGTC, RTI Surgical, SumTotal, Infotech and Optym.

“The creation of 140 jobs is a huge opportunity for our region and advances the Chamber’s vision of Greater Gainesville as a global hub of talent, innovation and opportunity,” said Gainesille Area Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Susan Davenport. “We look forward to supporting USR systems in achieving higher and higher levels of success.”

“USR Systems’ expansion is a testament to the strength of Greater Gainesville’s workforce and business climate,” said Don Davis, Chairman of the CareerSource North Central Florida Board of Directors. “The 140 new jobs this deal produces will greatly impact the region and benefit residents who embark on a career with USR Systems. CareerSource North Central Florida looks forward to being a talent delivery source for USR Systems.”
