Military Family Employment Advocacy Program

• How is working with the Military Family Employment Advocacy Program more beneficial than doing it on my own?

  Frequent moves associated with the military lifestyle can make finding employment a challenge. By working with a Military Family Employment Advocate you have a person assisting you who understands the local job market and the needs of military spouses and dependents. These services are especially important if you are new to an area. The advocate can also assist you with resume writing, preparing for interviews and help coordinate your job search to match local openings.

• What is a Florida CareerSource Center?

  Florida’s CareerSource Network is part of the American Job Center System that links employers to qualified applicants and provides employment assistance, education and training services for job seekers. In the CareerSource Network there are more than 100 career centers throughout Florida. The staff in career centers can assist you with numerous employment related programs that include, but are not limited to: job search assistance, placement assistance, career planning and counseling, case management, resume assistance, assessment and testing services, interviewing skills training, referral to educational and training programs, job fairs and job clubs. In conjunction with each local area’s Business Services Center, services are also provided to employers seeking to hire military family members. 

• What is Employ Florida?

  Employ Florida is the State of Florida’s official website designed to connect employers and job seekers. You can search for jobs, apply for jobs, and post your resume for prospective employers to review. Through Employ Florida you can also create a resume, research career and wage information, find training programs, conduct and save job searches, receive automatic job opening notification and connect to local workforce experts.

• My active duty spouse and I are not in the same area right now. Am I able to receive services in my area or am I only eligible where he is located?

  Whether your spouse is in a different state, or even a different country, you can receive services in the area you reside; or if you are getting ready to move and want to begin looking before you transfer, services can be accessed online.

• Where can I access the services available for military spouses and dependents?

  Employment services can be accessed online using the Employ Florida System at www.EmployFlorida.com or at any of the career centers in Florida. There are advocates located in seven areas around the state near areas which have the highest density of active duty personnel. Any Customer Service Representative at a career center can assist you; however, the Military Family Employment Advocate is someone who truly understands the barriers that you face when searching for employment. Some advocates are co-located on military bases. Please see the Advocate Contact List at the bottom of the Military Family Employment Advocacy webpage for the advocate located nearest to you.

• How much do services at a Florida CareerSource Center cost?

  There are no charges for job seeker services at career centers in Florida.

• What do I need to bring when I go to a Florida CareerSource Center?

  The first time you visit a career center bring your current military I.D. card to verify your status as a military spouse.
